Top 5 Creative Challenges to Complete With Sonic Coloring Pages
When completing Sonic coloring pages, my children occasionally get bored and ask me to come up with an idea for a more creative task so that they can compete against each other. This is why I suggested they complete some challenges that can help them develop their creative abilities.
Three-Color Task
Learning how to combine various hues is a difficult endeavor. Even if it’s easy to pick blue for Sonic’s body, a child should decide on other tones carefully, find suitable markers, and fill in empty shapes with appropriate colors. I chose to use Sonic coloring pages as an opportunity to teach youngsters how to create well-balanced combinations with a harmonic feel.
Start by suggesting one key color (it could be blue for pictures of Sonic), and ask your kids to complete the rest of the picture using only two other hues. They can experiment with light and dark shadows of the same color or add a bright accent that stands out against the background.
The result may have a surprisingly artistic effect. My daughter once decided to combine blue, purple, and mint green, and was fully satisfied with the outcome of this challenge. The output may seem unusual, but this task will ignite confidence in your kids and inspire them to seek creative combinations.
Monochrome Experiments
If your children find it problematic to choose between many hues that can be the best fit for Sonic coloring pages, suggest they use only one pencil and apply different pressure to achieve lighter or darker shadows. This technique will allow them to master new techniques and pay attention to accuracy. Moreover, it will demonstrate that there is no need to use a variety of expensive pencils to create a visually striking artwork and make an artistic statement.
My children chose different hues for this task and asked me to give an honest assessment of the result. Then, they asked other family members to vote for their pics without disclosing the authorship. After determining the winner (who was my daughter), we moved on to other, no less interesting challenges.
Flipping the Image Upside Down
Rotating the sheets 180 degrees adds an extra difficulty to the task, allowing youngsters to discover new confidence in their abilities and learn how to work in challenging conditions. See how long it will take for kids to complete this task and award the winner a prize!
This challenge makes completing Sonic coloring pages more time-consuming but allows everyone to have a lot of fun and look at their artwork from a different angle. Cheating is strictly prohibited. My kids were happy with this idea, as it allowed them to share a good laugh and discover an entirely new perspective.
Unusual Color Palette
Choose surrealist combinations of hues for Sonic coloring pages and encourage children to stop worrying about using the right pencils. Let them color every detail how they see fit, including Sonic’s body. It will allow them to freely express their ideas and create a fantastic world following their rules.
You can also establish an additional limitation to add an extra level of difficulty and ask your kids to choose between hot and cold palettes. This way, they will learn about the differences between main colors and discover new, surprising combinations of hues.
Use Your Other Hand
While this task may be challenging, it allows kids to develop their skills better and learn how to hold the pencil with either hand. When my children became too good at completing Sonic coloring pages in no time, I suggested they participate in a timed contest. As both of them are right-handed, I asked them to fill in the sheets with hues using their left hand only. It eliminated the edge my daughter had over my son and put them in a position where they could compete on equal terms.
The contest turned out to be surprisingly engaging, and my son managed to complete his picture first. He was thrilled with his win and proud of the work he accomplished. Even though the result did not look as perfect as the image that he finished with his right hand, it still looked decent. Moreover, this challenge helped him improve his hand-eye coordination. You can either experiment with these ideas or come up with your own to show youngsters that being creative is always a choice.
